Ok, hands up if you’ve bought a tool before only to discover that you might never use it again, and now it’s taking up valuable space in your home.
Many of the items we buy and store in our houses get used a couple of times a year and are expensive to initially purchase. That’s where the lending library comes in at The Recycle Project, York.
They’re launching a new project, called The Borrowers, to coincide with their first birthday at the start of April. It’s will allow people to borrow the things that they need, and return them once they’re done.
We’re talking about power tools, gardening machinery, camping gear for your annual holiday or even a baby gate if you’ve got family coming to stay.
It’s all part of their ethos to encourage a circular economy, reducing waste and putting items back into the community where they’re needed.
People can sign up to become Borrowers, and pay a monthly subscription fee of £22.50 and borrow everything they need, or pay-as-you-go for individual items. Items can be booked out for a week or even longer, provided no one has booked in afterwards.
There’s set to be several collection and drop-off points across York, with the main hub being at The Recycle Project’s HQ on Yorvale Business Park, off James Street.
Brad Mulhearn, CEO, has a simple explanation for how the idea came about: “Our mission is to get as many items back into the community as we can, and we are always looking for ways to promote a circular economy, that’s what it’s all about – it’s our ethos. We are currently recycling 20 tonnes a month.”
And for those of you wishing you hadn’t purchased that foldable workbench that takes up a tonne of space in the garage, why not get in touch with the guys at The Recycle Project? They’re always looking to grow their collection in the lending library.
