Over the years, York Maze has established itself as one of the most anticipated events within the city – and this year, they have reached new heights! Marking the iconic LEGO brand’s 90th anniversary, Farmer and brainchild behind the York Maze business, Tom Pearcy has created what is believed to be the world’s biggest LEGO Minifigure at 150 metres tall, cut from his 15-acre field of maize plants.
With one million maize seeds planted and covering an impressive area (the equivalent size of eight Wembley football pitches!) when viewed from the air, this year’s York Maze design shows a giant image of a LEGO Minifigure breaking through a wall of LEGO bricks.
When talking about the inspiration behind this year’s theme, Pearcy comments, “I love LEGO play, my kids love LEGO play, it’s something that appeals to all ages. When deciding what image to design in the maze I immediately thought of creating the world’s biggest LEGO Minifigure.”
Although some lucky visitors have already had the exciting opportunity to take a sneak preview of the maze from the heights of a helicopter, the LEGO Group 90 Years of Play Maze is officially open for visitors to explore from tomorrow, Saturday the 16th of July.
Pearcy continues, “We challenge visitors to navigate their way around the maze to find the images of six big LEGO Minifigure boards I’ve hidden in the maze, find all six Minifigures and answer the quiz questions and you could win a prize. With over 5km of pathways, there is plenty of scope for getting lost!”
A fantastic day out for the family, this year’s York Maze is set to be the best yet.
