You step out onto the stage, your heart pounding, the room is full, hundreds of eyes bare down, your mind panics as it runs through every line, you freeze, your voice lost…
Yes, it is most people’s worst nightmare to stand in front of a theatre full of strangers but for the plucky few it is their bread and butter and one of our own has been given a master class. Joseph Rowntree Theatre’s Will Darwin has been gifted a brief but rewarding insight into the professional realms of acting by stage and television star Layton William.
Will, who is currently in the process of applying to drama schools between rehearsals, said of meeting Layton and the rest of the cast, ‘Seeing a professional cast work so quickly was really interesting and, even with all this going on, Layton was very welcoming and managed to find time to speak to me. He was so down to earth.’
Both actors’ have been brought together, by taking the lead role of Paul in two separate productions of Cole Porter’s musical masterpiece, Kiss Me Kate. William’s who has just finished a month long stint as Paul in Sheffield’s renown Crucible theatre, is all set to take on new (six inch heeled) heights as he transforms into a 16 year old drag queen sensation, in the West End triumph Everybody’s Talking About Jamie. William’s though, is far from a novice and has gathered much acclaim for his work on stage, with titular roles of Billy Elliot and Michael Jackson in thriller live, alongside notable television roles including BBC comedies Beautiful People and Bad education, so we doubt he’s too worried about his coming success.
Joseph Rowntree Theatre Company’s production of Kiss Me Kate is running from the 6th – 8th of February.
