Famous Yorkshire faces captured in new book 

The perfect Christmas gift, featuring Yorkshire’s famous faces and supporting York Against Cancer. 

Multi-award-winning photographer David Charles has created a veritable ‘who’s who’ of Yorkshire with his new book, from which all proceeds will go towards York Against Cancer. 

Ten years in the making, Yorkshire’s Finest features stunning portrait photography of some of the best-known celebrities from God’s Own County, including Dame Judi Dench, Sir Michael Parkinson and Sean Bean. Charles said: “Having gone through my own battles with cancer, I know firsthand the challenges and emotional toll it can take, not just on the individual, but on their families as well. I was inspired to create a unique photobook to raise funds and awareness for York Against Cancer after learning how they do so much for the Yorkshire community.”

Well-known Yorkshire folk who appear in the book include Alan Titchmarsh (Ground Force), Amanda Owen (The Yorkshire Shepherdess), Count Arthur Strong, Julian Norton and Peter Wright (The Yorkshire Vet), star of Kes, David (Dai) Bradley, and ‘Mr Yorkshire’ himself, the late Harry Gration MBE. Yorkshire’s Finest also features stars from the sporting world, Sir Geoffrey Boycott OBE, Harold “Dickie” Bird OBE MBE,  Chris Kamara MBE, and Johnny Nelson MBE, as well as high-profile TV chefs, Marco Pierre White and Brian Turner CBE. The book also features snaps of Coronation Street icon Gaynor Faye, acclaimed actress and screenwriter Kay Mellor, and local musicians and performers including Bill Nelson, Biff Byford, Paul Carrack, and Jane MacDonald. Celebrities from in and around our city who appear in Yorkshire’s Finest include Archbishop Stephen Cottrell, the 98th Archbishop of York, record-breaking Thirsk athlete Jasmine Harrison, homegrown musicians Rick Witter and Sam Bettley, and of course, star of the show, Dame Judi Dench. The book also features Prof Stephen Leveson MBE, after whom York Against Cancer’s Leveson Centre is named.
