Operating as part of Rotary International, a worldwide network of volunteers committed to creating lasting change in communities, Rotary York Ainsty (RYA) is a local group that supports homegrown charities, youth initiatives, and various humanitarian efforts worldwide. Next month, our readers are invited to head down to a very special Invitation Evening, where members both old and new will be delving into the good work undertaken by the Rotary Organisation and the RYA in particular.
For more than 100 years, the group has worked to promote peace, support education, grow our local economy, and protect the environment. David Robinson, President of the Rotary Club of York Ainsty, said: “Rotary offers meaningful ways to create lasting positive change, expand leadership skills, and build lifelong friendships with people in your community and around the world. Every project and partnership helps you become part of something bigger than yourself.”
Amongst Yorkies, the RYA is probably best known for its annual Christmas Santa Sleigh, which sees none other than Father Christmas himself wind his way around York, entertaining children in areas including the Knavesmire, Clifton Moor, Acomb and Bishopthorpe ahead of the big day. David Robinson invites all to “please come along, share in our fellowship and see what Rotary has to offer you. Rotary is open to everyone. Whatever your skills or interests, you can find your place in Rotary.”
