Licensed venues in the city are now invited to apply for the next round of accreditation from Best Bar None, a nationally recognised scheme supported by the Home Office.
Delivered locally by York BID in partnership with organisations including City of York Council and North Yorkshire Police, Best Bar None celebrates the cream of the crop of licensed premises, and assesses businesses based on four key criteria: venue management; staff training and care; customer safety and welfare; and customer service and community.
Well-known local businesses recognised at the 2026 Best Bar None Awards earlier this year included Evil Eye (Best Independent Venue), Club Salvation (‘Best Late Night Venue’ and ‘Best Overall Venue’), Circuit York (‘Special Recognition’), Slug and Lettuce, York Riverside (‘Best National Venue’) and The York Dungeon (‘Best Entertainment Venue’). The York Best Bar None scheme was also awarded the ‘Best New Scheme’ gong, championing the city’s safe and welcoming nighttime economy.
