Are you a proud poppa keen on raising funds for York Against Cancer, whilst raising awareness of prostate cancer in the process? Maybe you feel that your own dad could do with a bit of extra exercise to get his beach bod in order in time for the summer? If so, we’ve got just the Father’s Day treat for you!
On 21st June, the older children’s play area of Rowntree Park will serve as the starting point for this year’s R U Taking the P…? fundraising fun run, which was first established by Knavesmire Harriers co-founder Brian Hughes after he lost a friend to prostate cancer. Runners can choose from either a 5K or 10K course, but whatever the distance you choose, there’s no pressure – the emphasis here is on fun and fundraising, and participants are welcome to run, jog, or walk at their own pace, with no stress or pressure.
Registration is open to anyone over the age of 8 years old, although those aged 8-16 can only take on the 5K challenge, and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who’s also taking part in the run. Funds raised will go towards increasing awareness of prostate cancer, with which over 50,000 people are diagnosed in the UK each year, and supporting York Against Cancer to continue their important work with cancer patients and their loved ones in York, North and East Yorkshire.
