Tommy Treebark’s Wild Adventure Returns

Can you find all 55 animals hiding around York?

Looking for a fun and free way to explore the beautiful city of York with the family this summer? Fancy putting your eagle-eyed kids to the test, and searching for 55 hidden animals in and around town?

Designed for children aged 3-12, Tommy Treebark’s Wild Adventure is back in York for another year! Until September, the city centre will be transformed into a family-friendly summer attraction, with much-loved summer seating introduced, and an array of grass animal sculptures hidden around key locations for little ones to track down. Created in partnership with local artist Emily J Starling (Selkie Ray), each sculpture design celebrates Yorkshire’s wildlife, from tiny ladybirds to larger native species. For 2026, York BID has introduced even more grass animals for families to find, enjoy, and take snaps with, including a grass alpaca and even a grass tortoise! We’ll also see an enormous grass chair sculpture added to the line-up, encouraging locals and visitors alike to pause, interact with each other, and take a moment to enjoy the environment around them.

Families are invited to track down 55 wild Yorkshire animals hidden on brightly coloured benches throughout the city centre, at locations including Exhibition Square, Library Lawn, Museum Gardens, Duncombe Place, Parliament Street, High Ousegate, and Minster Refectory Gardens. Once each animal has been recorded in your trail leaflet, you could be eligible to claim a free prize, with choices including a cuddly rabbit, cuddly mouse, minibeast viewer, or Tommy Treebark badge.
