Concert offering a sweeping panorama of national imagination, journeying from pastoral lyricism and sparkling wit, to the sheer pleasure of a great tune.

The evening opens with a famous Gilbert and Sullivan overture before transporting audiences into the dreamlike world of Delius. Vaughan Williams’s beloved masterpiece, The Lark Ascending is beautifully partnered by tender melodies from Elgar, Walton’s dashing musical portrait of wartime Spitfire builders, and the fresh, modern voice of Richard Rodney Bennett.

A glorious parade of British light music favourites, including timeless pieces by Eric Coates, completes a colourful programme filled with affectionate nostalgia.
