The orchestra’s final concert of the season features a rich and varied programme, continuing its celebration of Weber with the overture to his much-loved opera Der Freischütz, highlighting his significant contribution to the operatic world.
The evening’s soloist is the acclaimed Bradley Creswick, leader emeritus of the Royal Northern Sinfonia, performing Bruch’s Violin Concerto No.1—one of the most beloved works in the repertoire.
The second half opens dramatically with Verdi’s powerful overture to The Force of Destiny, setting a tone of fate and tragedy. The programme also revisits the music of Benjamin Britten with the Sea Interludes and Passacaglia from Peter Grimes, a meaningful inclusion for Music Director Simon, who conducted Britten in his very first concert with the orchestra over 30 years ago.
The season concludes in spectacular fashion with Ravel’s La Valse—a dazzling orchestral showpiece that captures both the elegance and the unraveling intensity of the waltz, bringing the concert series to a thrilling close.
