York International Women’s Week returns from 1-8 March with its biggest programme yet, all brought together to mark International Women’s Day on 8 March. Organised by local volunteers, this year’s celebrations will feature over 60 events (with some running before and after the week itself) across the city and online, with many available for free entry, and most being held in step-free venues, where organisers will be willing to help with access as much as they can.
This year’s theme, Weaving Women’s Stories, runs throughout the week, bringing together women’s voices, experiences and creativity in a wide-ranging programme. The events on offer include exhibitions, films, talks and performances, alongside hands-on workshops focusing on activities such as dancing, photography, crafting, writing, journalling, seed-growing and online yoga!
There are opportunities to explore women’s histories and contemporary lives, discuss topics including climate, gender representation and kindness, and take part in research-based talks and professional networking sessions. Visitors can also browse fair trade goods and second-hand clothes, join a women’s walking tour of York, enjoy poetry and music, play tennis, take part in a flashmob, or simply gather to reflect, share stories and connect over tea, and much more!
Full details are available online, with printed copies of the programme available from local libraries, community centres and venues around York, including the visitor information centre. For more information, call 01904 702060, visit www.yorkwomen.org.uk or follow @yorkwomen.
