FOOD REVIEW: Peachey’s Bar & Grill @ The Milner York

Located in the heart of the city (just around the corner from York Station), The Milner Hotel is one of the most elegant places to stay in town. First opened in 1878, this grand, five-storey building is a great example of late-Victorian architecture and, with its green, flag-laden garden, it’s also a welcoming sight for new arrivals to the city.

Having travelled past The Milner countless times without ever going in to eat, Pat and I jumped at the chance to visit this beautiful hotel when we were invited to sample their menu! Upon arrival, we were greeted with a picturesque view of York Minster, before being kindly shown to the restaurant, Peachey’s Bar & Grill – the name ‘Peachey’s’ is a reference to William Peachey, the famous architect who designed the hotel as an integral part of York Station, which the terrace restaurant is placed right next to.

Our server Chloe was on hand to offer us any assistance we needed when it came to deciding on our choice of meals, as well as which drinks were best to complement them. Pat opted for the Soup of the Day (that was Tomato and Basil, one of his favourites!), and the flavours did not disappoint. I went for the Smoked Paprika Hummus with Flat Bread, and found that the paprika gave the dish a really good kick! For the main course, I went for Peachey’s Beer-Battered Cod & Triple-Cooked Chips, while Pat went for the Dry-Aged Flat Iron Steak with Triple-Cooked Chips and all the trimmings – everything was delicious and cooked to perfection! Despite being pretty full after the first two courses, we did manage to find room for dessert – I went for the Lemon and Lime Tart, and Pat chose the Peachy Mess with Seasoned Berries.

All in all, we found that The Milner offered the perfect meal to enjoy for a weekend in York, at one of the city’s most iconic locations!
