BEATING THE BACK-TO-SCHOOL BLUES! Send the sprogs to school with a smile…

The summer holidays are well and truly over! After the long break, it’s (finally!) time for the kids to get back to the grind – but what can parents do to alleviate those dreaded ‘back-to-school blues’?

Incentivise learning with rewards.

A well-placed treat can work wonders when it comes to encouraging good behaviour and proactive learning, so why not use the ‘carrot or the stick’ method to encourage your kids to get back to school with a bang? Favourite foods and fun days out always work well!

Take a stroll to school.

If your child is apprehensive about returning to school, taking a walk to the site can go a long way towards reducing anxiety ahead of the big day. Once they’ve refamiliarised themselves, your kids may realise that, actually, the prospect of returning is not so bad after all!

Re-establish a term-time routine.

Before their first day back, your kids may benefit from a gradual return to their term-time routine. Enforcing appropriate bedtimes and waking times can be especially useful for ensuring a smooth transition from the holidays, although this can be easier said than done!

Create a dedicated ‘study zone’.

To reduce apprehension and prepare your kids for ‘work mode’, try to establish a dedicated space for learning at home. Most kids hate homework, but prepping them for the inevitable onslaught with a calm and organised space could help!
