Station Gateway Project brings new changes to York Railway Station

By Heather Gosling

Changes to the area outside York Railway Station have progressed and will bring new road closures and relocated bus stops. The first of these will take effect on Monday, so travellers should plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys.

City of York Council released the above image which shows the current phase of the £25 million Station Gateway project. The changes include a new paved recreation area where Queen Street Bridge used to be and a new cycle path.

From Monday 10 March bus stops RF, RG, RH and RJ* will operate as usual, but will move down the road, as illustrated on the map below. Lane closures on Blossom Street will remain in place until 12 April.

Network Rail’s long-stay car park will also be closed permanently from 23.59 GMT on 14 March to allow for work to begin on a new multi-storey car park.

Councillor Kate Ravillious, executive member for Transport at City of York Council, said: “I would like to reassure people that buses will continue to serve the station and that the changeover of the bus stops will happen overnight, so please do continue to use our local bus services to travel into and around the city.”

She added: “We are hugely grateful to everyone for their patience and understanding while these works take place.

“We are working closely with our contractor and partners to minimise disruption as much as possible.”
