Beloved York historic attraction Treasurer’s House is now open for Christmas, with visitors invited in for a relaxing wander through the grand rooms of the Grade I listed house.
This year’s theme – An Inspired Christmas – shares some of the stories of Mr Frank Green, the last private owner of the house, and the people around him.
As Christmas returns to the house, staff and volunteers have been busy giving the striking rooms merry makeovers – with many of the decorations handcrafted by the dedicated team of volunteers at the property.
Rooms not to be missed include the Blue Drawing Room, where local artist Megan Barnett has created bespoke glass ornaments (inspired by ecclesiastical architect Temple Lushington Moore); an unusual tree in the Court Room, inspired by the changing fortunes of house maid Ivy Cliff; and a stunning display in Princess Victoria’s Room, inspired by recently unearthed love letters penned by one of the house’s previous valets.
As well as festive designs and floral displays, Treasurer’s House welcomes the return of some festive furry friends – with costumed mice representing servants from a time gone by, hidden throughout the rooms for little ones to discover. The atmospheric café is bringing back their award-winning Christmas Pudding Scones by popular demand for the five weeks of the festive period.
Rebecca Allott from the National Trust said:
