REVIEW: The Flower Belt Helmsley

By Mia Dale

If you’re looking for a peaceful escape from the city or a wholesome activity to do with your loved ones, you need to check out this beautiful hotspot – The Flower Belt, Helmsley, open from 10am-5pm every day.

This luscious flower farm is located only five minutes from the quaint town of Helmsley and is home to around 32 varieties of wildflowers. Surrounded by the stunning views of the North Yorkshire Moors, you get a container of choice and a pair of scissors, and off you go! Choose your favourite flowers, cut them straight from the ground and arrange them however you like. Whether you are a creative who likes to stick to a colour theme, or someone who loves a random colourful arrangement, this experience gives you the freedom to create whatever you like. You can also pick sunflowers for an extra £2 each! Once you have picked all your flowers, the lovely staff remove them and wrap them to take home – unless you choose the flower bucket, which is included in the price.

The options are:

Jam Jar – £7 (don’t keep)

Vase – £15 (don’t keep)

Flower bucket – £50 (keep the bucket)

In summer, they also have The Honey Tap, a café/bar serving pizzas, coffee, and drinks as the perfect refreshment.

My friend and I opted for the £7 Jam Jar option, and ended our experience with a refreshing drink from the bar just before the weather took a turn for the worst! As summer is sadly coming to an end and autumn is well and truly on its way, don’t worry if you’ve missed out this year … flower picking turns pumpkin picking in the autumn months! So, if you missed out on the flurry of flowers, be sure to plan an autumnal trip to the farm! Small pumpkins are priced at £3, medium at £5 and large at £7. Don’t worry, there is no need to book in advance!

Location: Off the A170 Thirsk to Helmsley Road, YO62 5EE. Keep an eye on their social media pages on Instagram and Facebook for updates on opening times and seasonal changes!
