One of York’s leading independent prep schools has announced the dates of their upcoming open events — for parents of prospective students to hear all about how their children will fit in and grow at the school.
Located just 14 miles north of the city centre in the charming Howardian Hills, Terrington Hall Prep School is one of the nicest places in the country for any child to begin their education.
There will be an open day for Prep School-aged pupils (7-13 years) from 1:30-4pm on Friday, March 8th and a second event for the school’s acclaimed Pre-Prep department from 9:30am-12pm on Saturday, March 9th. Friday’s open day is aimed at families with children in Years 3 – 8. Saturday is aimed at families looking for places in Nursery to Year 2.
Parents will hear first-hand about how the school can expand their child’s horizons by helping them discover their strengths, develop their natural curiosity, and learn about the significance of mutual kindness as the basis for lifelong friendships.
Glowing reports
If you’re looking for credentials before attending, Terrington’s recent inspection report from the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) should tell you everything you need to know. The ISI is the body appointed by the Department of Education to assess and report on the schools across England that are not funded or controlled by central government.
Inspectors reached the overriding conclusion that pupils “are confident they will be supported” at Terrington Hall Prep School. The report’s findings should assure parents that their children will make good progress, and by the time comes that they graduate, they will be well prepared for the transition to senior school.
The report also praised the atmosphere that teachers and school leaders have created at Terrington— they have fostered a space in which pupils feel confident, cared for, and demonstrate genuine thoughtfulness towards each other.
Headmaster Simon Kibbler said he was thrilled with the “hugely positive” report. He added, “I am immensely proud of our wonderful school and the incredible work and support our staff give for the benefit of the children.”
A welcoming location
Children and parents love Terrington Hall because of its stimulating atmosphere and safe, rural environment. Yet it’s just 14 miles from York, with minibus services serving routes from York and the surrounding villages. Children attend as day pupils and can board on an occasional or weekly basis.
If you can’t make one of the Open Days, you’re welcome to book a bespoke visit. You’ll see the school in action and speak to both pupils and teachers about life at this dynamic, forward-thinking community. Families can take an informal tour of the school and its nine acres of grounds. See children learn to swim in its pool, hone their sporting skills on its pitches, express themselves through music and performance, and be inspired by creative and enthusiastic teachers.
