Ben’s Book Corner: October 2023

Ben's book corner

By Ben Robinson

With spooky season coming up at the end of the month, I always like to get in the mood with a compelling crime or horror book. Whether you’re excited for Halloween, or just want something moodier for the winter months, I have just the selection of books for you.

‘The Haunting of Hill House’ by Shirley Jackson – This is a classic horror novel, filled with fright, ghostly goings-on, and a spooky mansion. Things begin to take a terrifying turn for the worse when four naïve people set foot in a demonic house…

‘Talking with Female Serial Killers’ by Christopher Berry-Dee — For those of you after a chilling true crime read, this is one of my favourites. Berry-Dee peeks behind the prison wall to provide first-hand accounts from the criminals themselves. You are guaranteed to be on the edge of your seat for the entirety.

‘Conspiracy, History’s Greatest Plots, Collusions & Cover Ups’ by Charlotte Greig – It’s the perfect page-turner for the avid mystery fans among us! Grieg begins the massive task of unpicking the mystery and conspiracy that surround some significant real life events. Eventually asking the biggest question of all — what is the truth?

‘The Satsuma Complex’ by Bob Mortimer – This is the perfect balance between crime, mystery andthriller. In the midst of a classic boy meets girl story — there seems to be a twist. When one of Gary’s friends goes missing he needs to track down the mysterious girl he met in the bar. All he has to remember her by is the book she was reading… Will he find her? Or will he find himself weaving a dark web?
