At yesterday afternoon’s press conference, manager Michael Morton’s confidence in his side was unwavering — following a particularly disappointing start to the new season. The Minstermen are yet to win from four but have begun to demonstrate some potential to turn things around. Last out against Aldershot Town, a city-fightback culminated in a Lenell John-Lewis equaliser in the 93rd minute to secure a 1-1 draw. Morton is hopeful that the comeback will spark a turnaround.
‘We’re now unbeaten in our last two games and expect to do even better in the next two.’ said Morton.
City have the opportunity to extend the unbeaten run to four games if they can secure victories over the bank holiday weekend — they play twice in three days with a trip to Dorking on Saturday and Rochdale at home on Monday. Memories are famously short in the National League when you can win football matches.

‘Obviously we didn’t ever suggest we’d be fighting for promotion this season, we’re looking to improve on last season and to achieve a strong top half finish’

On the injury to David Stockade.
The biggest news from over the weekend was the injury to first choice goalkeeper David stockade, brought in from Sheffield Wednesday to play as number one this season.
‘He had his scan yesterday and we’re a bit disappointed, it’s worse than we thought.’ Morton confirmed.
‘That could be a couple of months minimum for him to come back.’
As a result City have recalled Ryan Whitley from his loan to Scarborough, he’s already kept two clean sheets this season so will be a welcome arrival for a side who are currently shipping goals.
‘We all know Ryan Whitley well, he had a really good pre-season, he had a really good spell at the back end of last season and he’s our number one in terms of coming back in and playing when Stocky isn’t fit.’
‘We all trust Ryan, we know what he’s about, he’s looked really sharp in training and his attitude has been top drawer.’
‘Alongside that he’s been playing, he’s played a handful of games for Scarborough and has got two clean sheets, that puts him in a really good place.’
