Dead Northern Film Festival 2022

Dead Northern Film Festival York - Your Local Link Magazine

The highly anticipated Dead Northern Film Festival returned in September to City Screen in York for its third year of jam-packed, horror-filled fun. Originally a small, spooky pop-up festival at the Crown Hotel in Harrogate, the Dead Northern Film Festival has now grown into a full weekend event held in the beautiful, historic city of York.

The weekend was packed full of horror-themed entertainment and delights, including a chance to enter a competition to win a range of tech goodies, with prizes and cool merchandise from the spooky shop, Ouji. For the daring, there was even a séance held on Sunday, hosted by Paul Forster.

For the film buffs, there was plenty to see from short films by students, features, classics, world premiers, live entertainment and special guests. A highlight for us was the student shorts, which included “Midnight Mannequin”, “The Lacuna Virus”, “No Place Like Home”, “La Boite”, “Dark Red” and “Janus”. We loved “No Place Like Home”, directed by the talented Louisa Bablin, as it held a particularly gripping plot line with a very shocking twist at the end which left us wanting to watch more!

The Dead Northern Film Festival was a truly inspiring event and it was great to see what marvels our future filmmakers have been busy creating. We already can’t wait for next year!
