After a two-year hiatus, the long-anticipated York Sports Awards are set to make a comeback in June and the team at Active York are now calling for your nominations. From those who actively play, coach and organise to those who volunteer or support sports, this exciting evening will champion those across the city who have gone above and beyond in their field.
Councillor Darryl Smalley, Executive Member for Culture, Leisure and Communities at the City of York Council, says “Active York have worked hard to bring the awards back this year because we all recognise the importance of celebrating and cheering on everyone committed to keeping us active and giving us the sports we love to play and watch in York.”
Active York, along with other organisations including City of York Council, York Sport at the University of York and York City Football Club Foundation will be sponsoring various awards within three main categories: Young Achievers, Senior Achievers and Special Contribution.
“The York Sports Awards are a brilliant opportunity to celebrate our city’s thriving sporting community.” Managing Director at Make it York, Sarah Loftus, contributes “In a year full of major sporting events and tournaments (…) it is so important to recognise our very own sporting heroes.”
With 16 awards up for grabs, the ceremony is set to be an exciting evening for all. To be considered, nominees must have been in full-time education or resided within City of York Council’s boundaries between January 2020 and December 2021. Nominations across multiple categories are permitted and must be submitted before Sunday 29th May. Finalists will be announced on Wednesday 1st June.
