If you find yourself in the historical city of York craving something to satisfy your sweet tooth, there are plenty of places to fulfil your appetite.

We’ve put together a handy guide of the top ten places to get your sugar fix. 

York’s Chocolate Story

Open daily, 10am – 4pm 

Learn the history of chocolate, and appreciate the art of the chocolatier before indulging in tasty chocolate. Go through each experience and read the stories from the people who worked in York’s chocolate factories: Terry’s, Rowntree, and Cravens. Not only will you get to expand your knowledge but your taste buds, too!

Cadbury shop

Head to Britain’s favourite chocolate brand’s shop located in a York Designer Outlet. Perfect if you’re a fan of the brand as all their products are located here, from traditional products to new flavours. Shop a large range of Cadbury’s confectionery.  

Hotel Chocolat

Opening: Mon – Fri – 9:30-17:30, Sun – 10:30-17:00

Being the only company in the United Kingdom to grow its own cocoa in St Lucia, Hotel Chocolat’s rich chocolate makes a perfect luxury gift for anniversaries, birthdays, or celebrations. Hotel Chocolat also pays their cocoa farmers more than the market rate for cocoa beans.

Shambles Sweet Shop

Along one of York’s most famous streets, Shambles Sweet Shop serves well over 300 sweets, catering to all taste buds. Bring your children, buy for a friend or treat yourself. The traditional shop accommodates everyone and sells new, popular sweets and retro sweets, for instance: Sherbet Lemons, Large Pear Drops, Haribo’s, Jelly Beans and many more.

Also known as Luxury Ice Cream Co, the name is fitting as Licc has been rated among the best independent establishments in the country. Now selling over 500 flavors, indulge your sweet tooth and try new adventurous flavors. Including Vegan Pomegranate gelato,  Salted Maple Pecan, Peaches and Cream, Cranberry, and, White chocolate are just a few of the hundreds of flavors that change daily.

Roly’s Fudge Pantry

Each of its shops handmakes their fudge using traditional recipes to make their desired fresh fudge every day. No oils or additives are used in the making of their fudge, which you can watch being made in their shop, to find out how they achieve the finest quality.

Kingdom of Sweets

The number one place to buy all your American sweets and chocolate, for instance, Hershey’s chocolate bars, Twizzlers, Fizz Wiz, and Harry Potter frogs. It sells imported snacks you’ve always wanted to try and now they’re in York.

Cocoa Joe’s

An independent business specializing in hot and cold chocolate drinks. Known as “The Chocolate Drinks Specialists.” They sell single-origin chocolate drinks, with each country in a category for your preference: dark, milk, white, and extras. Each drink is made to order, achieving a velvety taste using all-natural ingredients.
