Want to dip your feet into the vast sea of music in York? Check out these up and coming local bands who are making big moves.
1. Flooded
A four piece band with a great debut single titled ‘Too Much for Lucy’. Their indie rock tune has had over 20,000 streams since the songs release and they’ve played enthusiastically to many in venues like The Fulford arms. Get ready for their exciting summer plans now by having a listen to their already released tracks (Available on iTunes and Spotify) or check out their facebook using this.
2. Serotones
This York based alternative rock band have racked up over 10k streams with their epic self-titled EP Serotones, which was released last year. They’ve headlined gigs in Fibbers and seem to have a loyal following already. They’re working on some new tunes as you’re reading this so make make sure you keep up with them! (Which you can do here) The EP is available on all platforms and makes me look forward to whatever else they’re cooking up.
3. The Vedettes
In their own words they: “take the energy of post-punk revival of the 2000s” and splash in: “a bit of Brit-pop swagger” Judging by the two songs they’ve released, that’s true. These five are currently planning a spring/summer release for their EP but are playing around York in the meantime. They’re headlining a show on March 22nd ata Victoria Vaults for a decent price of £5 ADV or £6 OTD so get yourself a ticket here.
4. Violet Contours
2019 is looking like its going to be a good year for these Yorkshire lads with a Northern tour throughout March and more studio time to make even more bangers like their available-to-download songs ‘Electric Bodies’ and ‘Pixar’. In 2018, they were nominated for the Yorkshire Gig Guides Outstanding Emerging Artist awards and given how their 2019 is shaping up to be, they very well may be on their way to winning it. You can check them out here.
5. My Wonderful Daze
With a few songs and even a music video on the way, this alt-rock/grunge band seem to know what they’re doing when posting live and acoustic versions of the songs to their Youtube channel. They too have played in the Fulford arms and are worth going to see if the opportunity arises. In the meantime you could check out the aforementioned Youtube channel using this link.
