Yorkshire waterfall

Chloe long

Im currently on placement at your local link to get more experience in the journalism/writing industry along side taking my A-Levels. Its been a really insightful experience and the staff are so wonderful and welcoming making it much more enjoyable. Especially Scott who has inspired me and helped guide me to start my own blog.

I have found 5 of my favourite hidden gems in Yorkshire that I think would be wonderful for people to adventure out and experience.

Himalayan garden and sculpture park

If you’re looking for an active day out perfect for the whole family, even your fuzzy little four legged friends then, this garden may be a the one to chose. Nestled in the heart of the north Yorkshire countryside with 45acres ready for your exploration with three entrancing lakes. If your a lover of nature this is a must visit as you follow a range of pathways, well walked and well loved by its visitors, but the real treat is finding the secret trails that lead off from the main path taking you through a true immersive experience full of natures most beautiful sounds and breath taking views. Due to the unique acid soil and microclimate its ideal for growing Himalayan plants that you won’t normally get the pleasure of experiencing. Peppered all around the park is 85 intricate sculptures meaning there is something for everyone to enjoy. A tea room is also on site to take a break and rest your legs full of fresh refreshments. There is also a wooden playground children of all ages will love. Garden admission tickets for your visit need to be purchased online adults costing £12 and under 16 go free. Visit https://www.himalayangarden.com/ for more information or bookings.

Malham cove

If your looking for a light and short walk (0.6 miles north of the village of Malham) that is a perfect adventure for families this is for you! Open all year round a clear marked footpath takes you from the village to the foot of the cove followed by steps that take you up to the limestone pavement on the top of the cove. Malham cove stands at approximately 80 meters high and 300 meters wide offering a breath taking view of the dale towards Malham and beyond, perfect for reflection and a moment to appreciate the nature on your doorstep. Also fitting for harry potter fanatics as a scene in the well know movie ‘deathly hallows’ was filmed here featuring the signature limestone pavement. More information can be found online at https://www.malhamdale.com/malhamcove/ .

Janet’s Foss

A moderately challenging route due to the uneven terrain the route includes taking roughly two and a half hours to complete the 0.8km trail, starting in Malham village. But it’s certainly worth it as the waterfall is beautiful and you’re even able to go for a swim if you don’t mind the cool water. visit https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/yorkshire/yorkshire-dales/malham-village-to-janets-foss for more information.

White scar cave

If you’re brave and interested in exciting adventures white scar cave is a showstopper. The longest show-cave in Britain, its approximate 1mile and takes roughly 80 minuets to adventure through. It has many impressive nature exhibits such as a waterfall which dominates the area as you first enter the cave with 55 tonnes of water coming thundering down every minuet! Another fun but heart in your mouth moment is the squeeze. In places along the cave walk the flow stone has grown so thick you need to squeeze through sideways to continue on the adventure providing a good laugh for friends and family. Many more interesting cave features can be discovered on the website https://whitescarcave.co.uk/ as well times and bookings. Important to note no under 12s can participate and prices are roughly £20 per person. A more accessible but similar activity (for younger children and less able people) is Ingleborough cave visit https://ingleboroughcave.co.uk/ to learn more.

Ingleton waterfalls trail

A scenic and full day out entailing woodland, wildlife, and of course waterfalls. A perfect all year round trail that is four and a half mile long and roughly takes 4 hours to complete, encapsulating nature at its very best. Falls park also offers a holiday home for short holidays to adventure the surrounding nature due to its location it permits you to go to some of the previous locations mentioned making it the perfect weekend away for adventures.

So there you have it, if your looking for an outdoor adventure I hope my recommendations peak your interest and inspire you to check out more of Yorkshires wonderful nature that you may not of realised it has to offer.
