We’ve reached it! 20 whole years of Your Local Link Magazine. What started as a little baby project has vastly grown over the years. We’re feeling very grateful to have received your support over the years as we simply couldn’t have done it without our loyal readers and advertisers. York is an excellent city and we’re so proud to call it our home and be able to serve its wonderful community.
To celebrate this year’s milestone birthday, we took the chance to sit down with our Managing Director, Gini Guttery about the business and its transformation over the years. This is what she had to say:
What does Your Local Link mean to you? Firstly, Your Local Link has provided stable, well-paying jobs for our staff and over 90 distributors in York for 20 years now. Against all the odds we successfully launched a magazine in the heart of an international newspaper group. Secondly, we have been amazed at how many local businesses, charities and other organisations we’ve been able to help by giving them a very cost effective and reliable way to launch and grow their organisations. The amount of customer testimonials we have had over the years is just phenomenal and makes us so proud that we have played a part in keeping York a strong and vital city and its local companies growing and thriving.
What’s been your favourite memory of working here in the last 20 years? It has to be all the fun we have had in the office with our pet dogs and cats. From Poppy stealing a customer’s gloves and eating them, to trying to escape out of the window and being saved by Sarah holding on to her tail (no harm came to either!) and growling at anyone who had a hat on (?). Suzie the cat (RIP) used to help (not) design by sitting on their keyboards. Our current office pet, Maddy the gorgeous spaniel, whose waggy tail and loving hugs make any day special.
Are there any exciting plans that we can look forward to in the next year of business? More of the same and a few surprises! We are always looking for ways to help our customers be more successful so watch this space…
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever been given? One, attention to detail, check, check and check again. Two, treat your staff and customers as you would like to be treated and three, under promise and over deliver, simple really.
And, as we’re all about the local here, what’s your favourite thing about being a resident of Yorkshire, God’s Own Country?
