York’s a stunning city – we all know that. But hidden within these historic walls are plenty of secret treasures – and whether you’re a resident or a visitor, you’re going to love them.
BETTYS
This stunning venue is full of delightful goodies – although Bettys Fat Rascal, a scone-like cake filled with currants and citrus peel and then topped with glace cherries and almonds, is a well-known favourite to locals and tourists alike. But did you know that a decadent summery version of these treats exist – with a naughty spiking of chocolate chunks and orange? Delish.

THE YORK ROAST CO.
Anyone who’s anyone will have heard of the delicious YorkyPud – it went viral after all, and has since appeared on This Morning, LadBible, The One Show, Loose Women and more. But it’s not just about the YorkyPud (although you do have to try this ‘roast dinner in a wrap’ before you die) – they also do hog roast sandwiches and roast dinners to take away. Amazing.

HOLGATE WINDMILL
If you want something unique to do with a whole lot of history, then look no further than Holgate Windmill. It’s York’s last surviving windmill and the oldest five-sailed windmill in the country. They often hold open days where you can see how it all works, buy some flour (and more goodies from the mill shop), and even get your little ones involved at their Mini Millers activity sessions.
